A MAP, WITH A LITTLE CONTEXT

Follow evidence.
Leave room for uncertainty.

Nearby open sightings are grouped within your chosen distance. We choose a representative recorded location using recency, identification quality and GPS accuracy, with each observer’s influence discounted when they submit multiple sightings.

The circle includes the cluster’s spread and reported location accuracy (250 m when unknown). It is a search area, not a statistical confidence interval or a guarantee a plant is still there.

Confidence describes the evidence for exploring an area, not the probability of finding a plant. High requires supporting sightings from at least two known observers on at least two dates within two years, each within 150 m of the marker including its reported GPS accuracy. Medium requires supporting sightings within 500 m from multiple observers and dates, including a sighting within three years. Unknown or broad GPS records remain visible but cannot veto stronger supporting evidence. The detail panel separates the evidence-backed search radius from the larger map circle covering all records. Research grade is not required; identification evidence is shown separately. Other locations are Low. Observation counts are shown separately. Casual and cultivated observations are included by default.

Obscured or private locations never contribute to estimates. Open observations with accuracy worse than 1 km are counted separately. Public access is unknown; a sighting is not permission to enter.

Eligible complete result pages are cached in this browser for up to 24 hours and refreshed on the next search after expiry. Public sightings are included regardless of license. Only CC0, CC BY and CC BY-NC records are retained in persistent caches for this noncommercial app. Other sightings use minimal occurrence facts in memory for this visit; their photos, descriptions and custom place text are not copied. If a live lookup fails, the map explicitly reports missing live-only records. Saved places retain an observation reference and your notes, not a permanent copy of its coordinates. Searches with up to 1,000 matching records automatically load all pages in batches of 200, including older sightings. Larger searches load in batches of 200, newest first, and display a Partial map notice. The iNaturalist link opens the original search and source content. “Everywhere” covers the global observation database; load additional batches for fuller coverage. Missing sightings do not mean a species is absent.
